A New Chapter...

Hey guys,

A slightly different post from me today. Big news and a bit of a surprise but I've decided to take a bit of a leap and create a new blog.

I've been unhappy with my blog for a little while and I think that you can probably tell. I'm not happy with a couple of things, with the name and my past content.

Now I know it seems like a big jump to go from not being happy to creating a new blog but this is something that I have been thinking about for a little while, it is not a decision I made lightly.

One of the main things I'm not happy about is the name of my blog. It was created on a whim late one night when I was reading a blog and thought "I could do this"
I think i was going for something along the lines of "all that glitters isn't always gold" but that name was taken so i settled on all that glitters for you. Now don't get me wrong I love my little blog, my space online, but I'm not proud of it.

I think that stems from the beginning when I used to go weeks without posting, my content was poor and I was posting for the sake of posting. So I decided I wanted a fresh start and I thought now should be the time to do it.

I really enjoy blogging and recently missed having that creative outlet so I want to take it seriously now. Now by this I don't mean I plan on giving up my job or anything silly like that I just want to fully embrace this as my hobbie and I thought that if I was going to do that I wanted to throw my whole heart in to it and be 100% proud of what I was doing.

So without further a due my new blogger link is www.beautyupnorth.blogspot.co.uk

I chose that name because it is a better description of what my blog will be about. Yes I will be mainly talking about beauty but in a way that only a normal girl from up north can. I'm also going to be braving some fashion and lifestyle posts too.

So there you have it guys my last ever post on All That Glitters. We've had some good times and some bad times but the only way is up and I hope you will all join me over on Beauty Up North,

My Holy Grial Eye Brow Product

Hey Guys,

I thought it was about time I shared my thoughts on my new favourite eyebrow product. I was browsing through boots a couple of weeks ago and I spied this.
I have heard really good things about this so thought I would give it a try, plus I needed a new brow product since I've been blonde as my old ones were all a bit to dark so that totally justifies it, right?!

So I've been using this properly for about two weeks so I think I can give my honest opinion now. As you can probably tell from the title of this post I bloody love it!
Its double ended, one end is obviously the product and the other end is a spooly which I find really useful.
The product it's self is solid but has a waxy formula that I find really easy to use and as long as I'm not to heavy handed it looks really natural. It also comes in a retractable tube which I much prefer to a pencil or anything that you actually have to sharpen.
The only problem I think that people may have is from the looks of it, it only comes in two shades, luckily I'm the blonde shade but I think other people may struggle.

I'm off to New York next week and I'm thinking about picking up the Anastasia Brow Wiz to see how the two compare as I have heard the two are almost identical except they have a much better selection of shades.

Let me know if you have tried this and how you got on? Also if you think I should try the Anastasia version.

Monthly Update: January

Hey Guys,

Image: We Heart It Link
So last year I tried and failed at doing weekly update posts. I think the main reason I failed is because nothing exciting happens often enough in my life to update people once a week. I do still like doing update posts so I thought I would do them monthly as I'm sure even boring old me could fill a post once a month.
So, January, was it just me or was that a loooong month. It seemed to go on and on and payday seemed like a distant memory but finally we are in to February. This is what I got up to in January:

  • I got a promotion at work so I'm now the store manager which is obviously a lot more responsibility and pressure but I am so ready for the challenge.
  • I finished my shopping for New York, expect to see some haul or luggage type posts coming soon.
  • I made the leap and got my backside back to weight watchers. Surprisingly I even managed to lose 4.5lbs over Christmas so I am determined to lose another stone and a half!
  • The reason I'm so determined to lose weight is because me and Stu have booked our summer holidays!! Two weeks in sunny Mexico, I cannot contain my excitement!
  • Beauty wise this month I have been really trying with my skin care routine and I really think it's making a difference, I might do a post on the products I've been using.
  • I've also been trying out a new foundation and some new Benefit products that I got from my advent calender that I will eventually get round to reviewing for you.
That is pretty much all I've been up to in January. It doesn't seem much when It's wrote down like that but I feel like I've never stopped. I have lots of posts planned for February and I can't wait to share them with you.

Let me know what you got up to in January and any exciting plans you have in February.

Review: Benefit They're Real Push Up Liner

Hey Guys,

Today I am back to share with you my thoughts on the Benefit push up liner.

This has been around for a while now and I think every one in the bloggershpere has reviewed this but I picked this up a couple of weeks ago and thought I would share my opinions as well.
This is a bit strange at first as you expect it to be a liquid liner but it is a gel formula which makes it a lot easier to control (by that I mean not make mistakes).  You twist the bottom to push the product up through the tip at the top.The actual tip is flexible but still quite thin which also helps with getting a nice line.

I did struggle with this at first as I tended to over twist and then to much product would come out and then it would just drop off the end. It also took me a while to get used to holding the product. I don't know what it is about it, I don't know if it's because the actual pen is thicker than I'm used to or if the tip forces you to hold it a certain way but it took me ages to feel comfortable using it.

Now I have got to grips with it I am reasonably happy with it and will use it until it runs out or drys out but in all honestly I wasn't blown away and I do think it was perhaps slightly over hyped? I mean there is nothing wrong with it as such it is an okay eyeliner, there is just nothing amazing about it.

Let me know your opinions on this, or if you have any tips on how I could use it better.

Getting Organised For 2015

Hey Guys,

Today I am going to share with you how I plan on staying organised for 2015.

This year, more than ever, I feel very inspired about my blog. I have some very exciting ideas for posts that I haven't tried  before that I can't wait to share with you. So, because of this I decided that I was going to have get my self organised.

I like to carry both a diary and a note book. I picked up my little diary from Clinton Cards and the notebook is one I picked up from Paperchase last year.

I personally find that I like to write ideas down as soon as they come to me. This is so it clears the space in my head and means I'm not likely to forget that totally awesome idea. So I use my notebook to write down titles of blog posts that I think of or products that I would like to try.

The other thing that I really like to use to organise not just my blog but my whole life really is my diary. In my diary I write everything down; what I'm working, what Stu is working, birthdays, days that I am going to write blog posts and days that I am going to post. I honestly think I would be lost without my diary and totally recommend that if you are someone that struggles with keeping yourself organised that you should get one of these.

The final thing that I have started using a lot more is my phone. I hear a lot of bloggers using their the phones to make notes and stuff and its just not something I have have ever done before. There is any particular reason for it I just haven't, however because I am a lot busier now sometime my phone is a lot handier than my notebook so I can jot down ideas on the note pad on their or use the calendar and Stu quite often sends me invitations and things through the calendars as well to make sure I don't forget anything.

So there you go, this is how I plan to keep my self organised and keep my blog running and some sort of schedule.Without making any promises I think that my posting days will probably be a Wednesday and a Sunday and one other day during the week if I can.

Let me know your top tips for keeping organised as I'm sure I could use some.

Jo Malone: Tuberose Angeleica Cologne

Hey Guys,

Today I am going to share with you my thoughts on my new favourite scent.

I was a very lucky girl and actually received this for Christmas from Stu. I had been lusting after this back since I went to Leeds last summer with me friend so was super happy when I unwrapped that beautiful cream box with the red ribbon on.

Now I am totally rubbish at describing scents so what I will do is insert what the website says;

The queen of white florals. Sensual. Touched with the green spiciness of angelica. Sumptuous on the warmth of amberwood. Intoxicating and desirable.

The way I would describe it would be very sweet and floraly but not sickly and still quite woody and heavy, it just smells very grown up and womanly. If you are any where near a Jo Malone counter or store I would recommend giving this a smell because it is now definitely my new favourite smell!

I mean this bad boy is pricey and does come in at £1oo for 100ml which works out at a £1 a spray! Wow that's pricey! That means I will only be wearing it on special occasions!

Let me know what your favourite scent is? Or if you have a favourite from Jo Malone.

Someday Summary #6

Hey Guys,

Sorry about my lack of posts recently, working in retail means Christmas is one of the busiest times of year. Anyway I'm back with my weekly summary, although this post is a bit of a rundown of the last couple of weeks.

  • So the biggest change recently is that I started my new job. I've gone back to working in fashion retail which I love except I am now running my own shop which is a lot of added stress hence the reason I've been coming in from work and chilling out rather than having laptop time.
  • Then after a week of opening someone decided to break in to the shop. Luckily they didn't manage to take anything but managed to leave a whole lot of mess behind to clear up which was nice of them.
  • Obviously it has been Christmas (and I hope you all had a really good one) not that I got to enjoy very much of it working in retail but I had a lovely day and spent it with family and loved ones.
So that is all I have been up to really. Although It doesn't look like very much now I've wrote it down I feel like I haven't stopped this last three weeks. Things are starting to calm down now so hopefully I should have more time to invest in my blog!

Let me know what you have been up to recently.

December Favourites

Hey Guys,

I thought I would show you the few things I have been loving in December.

As I have been so busy this month I haven't really changed my make-up very much so I only have a couple of favorites this month.

This first thing that I have been using so much this month is my Naked 2 palette. I found I used this a lot as its so handy to create simple quick and easy looks with this palette.

The next favourite is this plum lipstick from Accessorize. Now it doesn't have a name so I cant recommended it to you but I'm sure if you went in you would be able to find it. It's a gorgeous dark plum shade that I have loved wearing all through December as I think it jazzes up all the dark outfits I have been wearing.

The next thing is the Stay Flawless 15 hour primer from Benefit. Now I only got this in my advent calender so I haven't had it all that long but I already know I love it and I will be buying the full size as soon as I run out. I really notice a difference to not only how long my make up lasts but how it applies. It really helps create that flawless look that lasts all day.

Another advent calender favourite is the mini They're Real mascara. I won't go on about this two much as I have done a whole post about this but my full size one ran out so I was sooo happy when I got a mini!

Finally is this beautiful body butter from the Body Shop which smells of satsumas! I love this scent and I love that this is only a mini as I find them so much easier to use. The Body Shop body butters aren't that expensive but do leave your skin feeling very luxurious!

Let me know what you loved this month.

Christmas Glitter Nails

Hey Guys,

Today I'm back to show you some really nice nails I picked up recently!

I picked these up in my local body care after I had only gone in for some deodrant ( isn't that always the case) because they really caught my eye! I thought these would be ideal for Christmas party season as they add a touch of sparkle without being over the top! The only complaint I have with them is the stupid sticky tabs that come with them! I would definitely recommend buying some decent glue to use instead!
I've already worn the purple ones and got quite a few compliments from the girls at work!

Let me know if you've seen any Christmas nails that I need to get!

Benefit Advent Calendar #1

Hey Guys,

Okay so my blogging schedule has totally gone kaput, my internet has had a meltdown and I'm having to write posts at other people's houses and then upload on my Ipad later.
So today I am going to share what I have got out of my advent calendar so far. Bear in mind that is a couple of days late.

So as you can see after four days I am really impressed with what I have so far.
First thing first there was the super cute paper clips that will come in handy at my new job!
Then I got a mini Ultra Plush Lip gloss in a really wearable pink shade. Ideal handbag size!
Next was the mini They're Real Mascara! I love this mascara and it's always handy to have a spare!
Finally there is a Stay Don't Stray concelar primer. I've never tried anything like this before but I am quite excited to!

Where I can I will try and let you know how I get on with all the products I have not used before.

My New Glasses

Hey Guys,

I'm back with a bit of a different post to show you my new accessories glasses.

Before I changed my job I worked in an office using computers all the time and I knew I needed glasses as I was starting to get quite bad headaches.
So as I suspected the optician recommended I get glasses for using computers, reading and watching the television. I spotted these ones straight away and fell in love. They are (obviously) Versace and have the small gold Lionish head on the sides, They are just the right size for me, not to big but big enough so they don't look to officey.  Now I know the picture isn't the best but it kind of shows the blue tint that the lenses have. This is not everyone's cup of tea and Stu doesn't really like it but I love it. What that does is reduces the glare from screens meaning my eyes don't strain.

I know this is a slightly different post from me but as I wear these most days now I thought I would share them!

Let me know what you think

Wishlist: Christmas Jumpers

Hey Guys,

I have made it my mission this year to get a nice Christmas jumper. Last year I left it to late and couldn't get one in my size anyway :(

So I thought I would share my favourite four that I have got my eye on.

Top Left: Topshop - Link
Top Middle: New Look - Link
Right: Ebay - Link
Bottom Left: Next - Link

These are my top four but in all honesty I think I'm edging towards the Ebay one. I think it kills two birds with one stone as Home Alone is one of my favourite films and the jumper would be a good talking point.

Let me know if you have already got a Christmas jumper or if you wear one at all.

The Christmas Tag

Hey Guys,

So its the 1st of December which is when Stuart officially lets me play christmas songs or even mention christmas at all. So I thought I would start this month of 'blogmas' off with the christmas tag.
I haven't actually been tagged to do this post but it looked fun so I thought I would invite myself to do it.

1. What is your favourite Christmas Movie/s?
I love christmas films, I don't think there is any that I've seen that I don't like. But I think that my top three would have to be Home Alone, Miracle on 34th street and Santa Claus the movie (the original)

2. Do you open your presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning?
When I was younger we were always allowed to open one present on christmas eve, and it just so happened that they were always our new pj's. But now I'm older I open all my presents on christmas morning.

3. Do you have a favourite Christmas memory?

I think the first Christmas I can remember I was about five and it was the year before my brother was born. All I had asked for was a pink bike, I came down on the morning and opened all of my presents and was so upset that there was no bike, until my mam shouted Santa has left something in the kitchen for you. Sure enough there was my brand new sparkly pink bike and I was over the moon. I even think I cried and wrote a really long thank you letter to Santa.

4. Favourite festive food?
It's not really a festive food but I always eat a massive, and I mean massive, amount of ferro roches!!

5. Favourite Christmas gift?
My favourite christmas gift has got to be little legs (zan) techinically I got him after christmas but I used christmas money to buy him.

6. Favourite Christmas scent?
This is a tricky one for me because I don't like typical christmas scents, I hate cinnamon and spice scents. I would have to say I really like vanilla scents or cooking smells.

7. Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?
No not really any more. When we were younger me and my two brothers used to squeeze into one bed and watch christmas films. I would always make them listen and they were convinced they heard bells every year.

8. What tops your tree?
A sparkly gold star!

9. As a kid what was the one (crazy, wild, extravagant) gift you always asked for but never received?
Every year without fail I would ask for a pony! My older cousin had her own horse and I was almost green with envy!

10. What's the best part about Christmas for you?
For me the best part of christmas has to be when someone I love, loves  the present I have bought for them. I try to put a lot of thought in to christmas presents and when someone really appreciates it, it makes it all worth while. Oh and pigs in blankets!!

So there you go, I tag anyone who wants to join in!

My Eyebrow Threading Experience

Hey Guys,

I have recently started getting my eyebrows threaded instead of waxing and when I started telling my friends they were all really curious as there seams to be a stigma attached to eyebrow threading. So I thought I would share my experience including some photos.

As you can see from the photo's they don't look exactly the same my eyebrows never do until I use some product in them. And I can only apologise about the quality of these photos I had to take them on my Iphone with really poor lighting.

Now I did try and take a before photo but trust me that was not pretty. Basically before I went in I was in desperate need, they were a mess. Truthfully they needed doing two weeks before I actually got them done but I was trying to grow them out so I could get them thicker than I normally do.

I've seen threading stations all over including most Superdrug's, I get mine done in Debenhams as I think the ladies in there are all super friendly and try to make the experience as painless as they can.

Now I'm not going to lie, it does hurt, well not hurt more of a sting. Not enough to make your eyes water and it's over pretty quick. The reason I prefer threading is it seems to get a much better line and you can get more of a precise shape. It also seems to get those little hairs that you can't really tell are there normally. The other massive plus for me is I sometimes used to get a reaction from the wax used and obviously there is none of that with threading.

In in all honesty I'm not 100% happy with these as the lady who normally does them for me wasn't in yesterday and I had to have them done off the other lady who wasn't as good but I still don't think she has done a bad job.

Have you ever tried eyebrow threading? Let me know how you got on!

Review: Lush Butterbear Bathbomb

Hey Guys,

I hope your all well on this dark gloomy morning. During winter my most favourite thing to do is take a steaming hot bubble bath using some lovely products.

Recently one of my colleagues gave me this bath bomb as a little leaving present and I thought I would share my thoughts on it with you.

Firstly I have to mention how cute is he!! Almost to cute to use, almost! This has a really fresh scent with a touch of vanilla that is not to overpowering and sickly.
When I first popped this in the bath, I have to admit I was kind of disappointed as nothing happened, no funny colours no popping candy nothing. However when I jumped in I was pleasantly surprised.  Although there was nothing fancy about it it was still filled with all the goodness that I've come to expect from Lush. It's almost like a bath oil kind of feeling. The water feels silky and luxurious and it leaves your skin feeling the same.

I would definitely recommend this and would purchase this for myself.

Let me know what your favourite bath products are.

Review: St.Tropez Tannin Mouse

Hey Guys,

I'm back to day with a review of possibly my favourite fake tan.

Now I know most people tend to only use fake tanning products in the summer when everyone has their legs out but I tend to use it all year round. I don't use it every day but if I'm going out I do like to add a bit of colour.
I've got a lot of Christmas parties coming up so I knew I would be using tan and decided to try St.Tropez. Personally I prefer a mouse to a lotion or a spray as I feel it applies easier and isn't to drying. Now I've been a log time user of the cheaper cousin St.Moriz and I love it but it does sometimes go on slightly patchy and  I just wanted to try something new.
I've tried this a couple of times now and I love it. It's a really nice consistency that's easy to apply and leaves the skin a natural golden colour. It is a little bit pricey but I think for special occasions I would definitely recommend this.

Let me know if you've tried this or if you can recommend any good fake tans.

Someday summary #5

Hey guys,

This weeks someday summary is a bit of a sad one!
Image: weheartit

  • I actually left my job this week. Now I'm not a nutter I do have a new job to go to but it is still really daunting and sad when you actually leave the place you have worked for the last year and a half.
  • Lost another 1lb and weight watchers and I'm only 1lb away from half a stone!
  • I officially am already over the cold weather! Don't get me wrong I love the crispness of autumn but I just don't like the winter.
  • Stuart has also started a new job this week, super duper proud of him!

Benefit candy-coated countdown advent calender

Hey Guys,

Today I am going to share a quick glimpse of the much sought after Benefit beauty advent calender.

Beauty advent calenders were a massive thing last year and I missed out on one of these bad boys last year so I made it my mission to get one this year. So out of sheer excitement I thought I would share this with you guys. I was on my phone at the exact time they were released and was still very lucky to get one. I am thinking about doing blogmass this year just so I can share the products that are in and some Christmas posts that I've got planned.

Let me know if you have bought any of these beauty advent calenders this year and if you have which one?

Review: Colab Dry Shampoo

Hey Guys,

Today I'm back with a review of the Colab Dry Shampoo.

Now I'm not afraid to admit that dry shampoo is sometimes my best friend especially those dark mornings when an extra 30 minutes in bed sounds so much nicer than getting up to wash my hair. Now when I had read other reviews of this product I couldn't wait to try it out, I mean a dry shampoo that is light weight and invisible who wouldn't like the sound of that. The scent that I picked up was Tropical and it smells beautiful really fresh and fruity. It's very true to it's word as it doesn't leave the horrible white residue that normal dry shampoo's do. As it is really lightweight I do find that you do need to use a bit more than normal to style your hair but that's still a good thing because your hair still doesn't feel heavy and full of product. I can't decided yet whether this will fully replace my beloved Batisse dry shampoo but I will definitely be repurchasing it.

Have you tried this product? What did you think?
